Ok, first up is the San Francisco 'design house' inkmonster.com for their very poor attempt at redrawing Lucie and Deathrock Chick. Full site here: www.strangemonster.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=36What gets me the most is that this is profit making at Rachael's expense. It's not like Rachael makes much money from what she does! Anyone with a bit of time on their hands please feel free to e-mail and give them a piece of your mind We certainly have!! More culprits to come...

Luckily we have a great many people out there who are watching out for us and letting us know when people pull such stunts. In this case someone spotted the stickers being sold in a Whitby shop (I only wish I'd walked in there and seen it for myself...that would've made an interesting scene!!). It happens frighteningly often, so from now on we're going to be announcing those who choose to rip off my illustrations for profit on here. I'll also start a section where people can alert us to any suspicious artwork that is exploiting and profiting off my artwork. I'm getting fed up of my hard work being used in such a way It still astounds me how much support we have out there...people finding and reporting misuse of artwork and people backing us up when offenders are found. Thanks so much for your help You're a star! xx

You are welcome Rachael.
If people are making a profit from your hard work it is not only annoying but to to me it is morally wrong.
I'd hate to have my ideas and not only copied but poorly copied!

It gets tiring, having to chase so many people. The disappointing thing is seeing how many people are so ready to copy and exploit. Sometimes it reaches a point where I want to pull all my artwork off the net and keep it 'safe', but then it wouldn't be reaching the people who matter, which kind of defeats the object of producing the artwork in the first place. All I can do is fight when we find these people and adopt the attitude of constantly drawing new and better stuff, so that the copies are left behind while I move on. It still hurts when it happens though

I'm not suprised!
I totally understand the whole 'keeping it safe' thing, I'm like that with my work.
People will always exploit the talented, because they cannot think of original and exciting things themselves!
There are plenty of people who love and admire your work so I'm sure that if they are anything like me they will steer clear of cheap, tacky rip offs!

It seems they have taken the offending stickers down and replaced them with new designs, so the link is no longer showing. I think they've accepted that the artwork is indeed a poor attempt at copying my illustrations. What saddens me the most about this case is that they appear to be people within the San Francisco goth/alternative scene who really should know better than to exploit the work of a fellow alternative artist Still, I can only hope that the artist responsible is getting a thorough telling off by the inkmonster.com company for such blatant copying. Not cool at all!

Things like this really don't suprise me, it's sounds so stereotype angst/marxist babble but I hate how much money means to some people. I wish I could make it all melt away. Shit like this is just the tip of the iceberg and nothing annoys me more than knowing that the efforts of people who try so hard to do good or beautiful things get swallowed up so often by some freakin' suit somewhere. [/end rant]

What about all the people using Rachael's art for their webpages or IM logo? I've seen a few here and there on places like Myspace

I *think* its generally people who are making a profit from using Rachaels work without consent instead of generally using it like that. Although I could be wrong due to copywrite laws etc!

It really is sad that people exploit your work. So far I haven't noticed anything in the Glasgow area of town, but I'm keeping my eyes wide open.

Guessing no-one has found anymore offenders then, which is a good thing even though I have having fun being a vigilanté...
